The goal of the course is to familiarize students with the role of the state in the functioning of the economic system. The subject is content-focused on the theoretical aspects of the public sector economy, as well as a range of topics related to the everyday application of this theory.

Course Content:
The role of the state in a market economy. Public sector. Market efficiency.
Market imperfections. Efficiency and equity. Public goods and private goods provided by the public sector. Public choice. Natural monopoly and privatization. Externalities and the environment. Public revenue and public expenditure. Pension insurance and social welfare. Health insurance. Education as a public good.

1. To explain the reasons for state intervention in the economy as well as the shortcomings of such intervention.
2. To classify and analyze the effects of government intervention in the market on efficiency and distribution.
3. To Identify and investigate situations that can lead to market failure, as well as those that result in the failure of government intervention in the market.
4. To analyze and differentiate the tasks and functions of the public sector and its impact on socio-economic development.
5. Critically evaluate different levels and segments of governance in the public sector.
